Kanye Stand

HLD produced the Kanye West art stand in conjunction with Uwe Schmidt-Hess of Patalab Architects as a stand that would complement the artwork.

The artwork itself is part of a series of Neon Rap Portraits produced by Natalie Wong. A section of Perspex with electroluminescent wire portraying, in this case, renowned rapper Kanye West.

HLD’s main focus when producing this stand was to ensure that the stand, while distinctive, did not detract from the artwork and instead complimented the work.

The bespoke, specially designed Perspex clamps hark back to the original clamps that held the artwork in place.

Lengths were taken to reduce the bulk of the stand by tightly enclosing all electronics, including 3D printed clips that fix the cable behind the rear leg of the stand.

Sepentine Gallery Front Desk (2018)

David Adjaye, Adajye associates, Sepentine Gallery

Stretching the idea of how a desk should look, the desk at the Serpentine Gallery is a very complex structure of steel which overall creates something unique. Based on a concept by David Adjaye, HLD designed and engineered all the components of the desk, including the use of 3D printed caps that mask the fixing’s holes of the back frame.

The desk combines mild steel sections, handmade steel latticework & 6mm toughened glass.

The finished piece was designed, produced and installed within a tight six-week timeframe, something we are incredibly proud of.
